A Detroit man who is accused of pouring gasoline and setting his pregnant girlfriend on fire has been released after posting bond.

Devonne Marsh, 41, was arrested for lighting his girlfriend, who is six and a half months pregnant with twins, on fire and burning over 60% of her body, Fox 2 Detroit reported. Marsh has a long criminal record, which includes drug, guns, and assault charges and has absconded from parole. He has warrants out for him in Macomb County and a pending case in Livonia.

Marsh posted a $5,000 bond and was released from jail in Wayne County, Michigan with several conditions, including being prohibited from doing drugs or going back to the scene of the crime.

Marsh’s bond was set to $50,000, meaning he only had to post $5,000 to be released.

According to the outlet, Marsh’s 26-year-old girlfriend, who remains unnamed, is currently hospitalized in critical condition. It is unclear if she or the babies will survive. She was reportedly too scared to come forward and report the crime, but a tip led police to the scene, and she is reportedly cooperating with the investigation into her attack.

“How do you do this to another human being? I can’t – it’s unimaginable,” said Detroit Police Commander Michael McGinnis at a press conference. “Just incredibly traumatic injuries. I did see pictures and I just…the pain she must be suffering, I can’t imagine.”

The news outlet reports that Marsh has as hold for charges in another county, meaning he is not allowed to walk free at this time.
