FAKE NEWS: No, the FBI did not seize a ‘fully constructed Lego set’ from a Jan 6 rioter

It has been revealed that a report by The Daily Beast regarding a "fully assembled" Lego model of the Capitol, found in the possession of a suspect charged in connection to the riot Jan. 6, was fake news.

Last week, social media lit up after The Daily Beast published a "scoop" revealing that a man arrested for his involvement in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot had a "fully assembled" Lego set of the US Capitol in his home.

The story was widely mocked by political commentators and keyboard pundits asking if the FBI was going to investigate other Lego sets in people’s homes, everything from Hogwarts to the Death Star. It turns out the reporting was erroneous, as the man only had the unopened box set.

The Daily Beast originally reported that "Federal investigators seized an unusual piece of evidence from a Pennsylvania man indicted last month for his role in the Capitol riot, a Lego replica of the building he allegedly stormed. Robert Morss, 27, is accused of leading fellow rioters in what prosecutors say was ‘one of the most intense and prolonged clashes’ with officers on Jan. 6."

However, a new court filing has revealed that the original detention memoranda, which denied Morss bail, was inaccurate.

The filing said, "In original detention memoranda, the undersigned stated that law enforcement found a 'fully constructed US Capitol Lego set.' That statement appears to be inaccurate. The Lego set was in a box and not fully constructed at the time of the search."

Julie Kelly reported for American Greatness that the Lego set was one of many items located during the arrest Morss for his role in the riot. Also found when authorities raided Morss's home were a "Don’t Treat on Me" flag and a neck gaiter, both of which matched items he brought with him to Washington, DC on January 6, as were "a military utility bag, a black tourniquet, and military fatigues," which he allegedly wore during the riot along with the aforementioned neck gaiter while carrying the Gadsden flag.

Dozens of people arrested in connection with the Jan. 6 riot remain locked up months later without any charges having been filed against them.

Many of those behind bars are reportedly kept in solitary confinement for 23 hours a day, allegedly for their protection. This includes Jacob Chansely, the 'QAnon Shaman,' who is among many who are not even charged with violent crimes.
