Fox News has tapped 30-year-old Lawrence Jones to temporarily take over hosting Fox News Tonight, the interim show the network has placed in the time slot where Tucker Carlson Tonight used to air, starting on Monday following Brian Kilmeade's week hosting the show.

According to the Daily Mail, Jones is a self-avowed libertarian who hosts Lawrence Jones Cross Country on Saturday night for the network.

The outlet reports that Jones is the "youngest black solo host of a cable news show in history."

In addition to his duties on Lawrence Jones Cross Country, the contributor often hosts morning segments for Fox & Friends where he tours the country having breakfast at local diners, and talking to local community residents.

On Monday, it was announced that Tucker Carlson was leaving Fox News and that his final episode aired April 21. Carlson learned of the firing Monday morning, shortly before the announcement became public.

Carlson made a surprise appearance on Twitter on Wednesday night and broke his silence after his exit in a video that has been watched over 21 million times, destroying his former cable news slot where views are concerned.

"One of the first things you realize when you step outside the noise for a few days," Carlson began, "is how many genuinely nice people there are in this country, kind of decent people, people who really care about what's true and a bunch of hilarious people."

He noted "how unbelievably stupid most of the debates you see on television are," that in the grand scheme of things, "they're completely irrelevant. They mean nothing."

Carlson was the highest-rated primetime host at Fox.

According to TMZ, Newsmax has been making moves to bring Carlson to their network, along with NewsNation and the One America News Network.
