Members of a Hamilton "defund the police" group left a coffin outside of Mayor Fred Eisenberger's home on Monday night, CP24 reports.

Police say this happened around 9:30pm. The group, called "Defund HPS" seeks to "invest the tax dollars that would have otherwise gone to the police towards initiatives fighting against food insecurity, racism and towards more affordable housing & other social services," according to their website.

Officers arrived at the home and opened the coffin, where they found roses, plants and naloxone kits. "Defund HPS" posted a video of the coffin on their Twitter, priding themselves with the execution of this act.

That video, captioned “We are to send a message to the mayor”, shows protesters bringing the coffin into Mayor Eisenberger’s property. Police have since begun investigating, and will be canvassing the neighborhood today.

Police are asking those who have information to call 905-546-2907 or report anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
