Republicans in the House of Representatives have sent a request to Christopher Wray, the director of the FBI brief them on the ties between Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA)'s ties to an alleged Chinese "honey-pot" spy.
The concern mainly centers around Swalwell's ties with a Chinese citizen named Christine Fang, who apparently had a close relationship with several politicians.
According to Fox News, 14 different prominent House Republicans signed their names on a letter directed to Wray requesting a full briefing:
"As our nation faces a growing security threat from the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) attempts to infiltrate and undermine the United States Government, we write to request a full briefing regarding counterintelligence threats to Members of Congress, including information related to Rep. Eric Swalwell’s ties to a suspected Chinese intelligence operative," states the letter.
Apparently, the FBI had seen fit to give Swalwell what is known as a "defensive briefing" in 2015, over concerns about his relationship with Fang.
"Rep. Swalwell, long ago, provided information about this person — whom he met more than eight years ago, and whom he hasn’t seen in nearly six years — to the FBI. To protect information that might be classified, he will not participate in your story," responded a spokesperson for Swalwell's office.
