"It is with great sadness and anger that we observe the death of the judicial system in America."

A federal judge on Thursday ordered that former Trump advisor and War Room host Steve Bannon report to prison on July 1 to begin his four-month prison sentence. Bannon was found guilty of two counts of contempt of Congress for defying subpoenas from the J6 Committee. He was sentenced in October 2022, but the sentence had been paused pending an appeal.

Conservatives raised concerns over Bannon being ordered to prison, calling it the "death of the judicial system."

Rep. Matt Gaetz said, "It is with great sadness and anger that we observe the death of the judicial system in America. Steve Bannon sought judicial review of the illegal demands of a runaway congressional committee, unlike any ever comprised.  It was literally a matter of first impression."

"And they’re sending him to prison - not just to torture him but to torture us. He didn’t even get a real trial. His defenses were stripped by a judge who hates him. The ramifications of these actions will reverberate in a very dark way for a long time," he added.

Gaetz noted that he had "begged house leaders to advance legislation to expunge these contempt proceedings" against those like Bannon, but "they refused, likely because we don’t have the votes."

Human Events Daily host Jack Posobiec wrote, "The regime has just ordered Bannon to be sent to federal prison for the rest of the 2024 election. Trump himself will be sentenced next month. Understand what time it is."

"Steve Bannon ordered to four months in Federal Prison starting on July 1st. This will go all the way up to the election. Direct election interference," wrote Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.

"It will get worse," Timcast host Tim Pool wrote in response to the news.

State Freedom Caucus Network comms director Greg Price noted that the J6 Committee, which issued the subpoenas against Bannon, was formed "illegitimately" and "deleted records, hid evidence, and smeared innocent people.

"Now Bannon is going to jail for being held in contempt by that sham of a committee," he added.

"They're coming for all of us," Price added in a separate tweet, noting the conviction of trump and the sentencing of an elderly pro-life activist for protesting outside an abortion clinic.

"They sent pro-lifers to prison. Now they’re sending Bannon to prison. Then they’re gonna send Trump to prison. Realize where we’re at," Libs of TikTok wrote.

"The unlawful imprisonment of Steve Bannon is designed to simultaneously demoralized and enrage. The regime needs to cook up another Michigan governor kidnapping hoax. Anyone saying 'we need to do something,' is looking to set you up. Stay smart," wrote commentator Mike Cernovich.

Others expressed their support for Bannon, writing "I stand with Steve Bannon."

Others noted how figures like Hunter Biden or Merrick Garland were issued or are facing the same charges, but haven’t been put in jail.

"A judge just sent Steve Bannon to prison for ignoring a congressional subpoena. Hunter did the same thing. No prison. Fauci lied under oath. No prison," popular X account End Wokeness wrote.

"Merrick Garland faces charges of criminal contempt for ignoring a congressional subpoena on the Biden Dementia Tapes. Peter Navarro is sitting in Miami prison on the same charge. Steve Bannon is facing 4 months in jail for the same charge," Citizen Free Press wrote.
