Update: It was initially reported that Justice Alito and his family left their home for an undisclosed location due to protests outside their home. This has been found to be in question.

Politifact reports that:

"In a May 5 interview with WMAL radio, [Lawyer Ilya] Shapiro said he had "heard a rumor that Justice Alito and his family have been taken to an undisclosed location."

"Shapiro said the same May 7 on Fox News: "I’ve heard that Justice Alito has been taken to an undisclosed location with his family."

"Several outlets and media personalities, including Watters, repeated Shapiro from there."

Original story follows:

US Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, who wrote the leaked draft opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson, which is expected to overturn Roe v. Wade, has reportedly been moved to an undisclosed location with his family due to concerns for their safety.

Earlier in the week, Alito canceled an appearance at the 5th US Circuit Court of Appeals' judicial conference.

UPDATE: On May 11, PolitiFact reported the “unverified rumor” of Alito moving to undisclosed location can be traced to conservative attorney Ilya Shapiro.

“But Shapiro has since said he cannot remember where he heard that rumor,” the update reads.

According to multiple outlets, far-left activists, including a group called Ruth Sent Us, are attempting to intimidate the five justices who are expected to sign the final version of Alito’s leaked opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which could overrule Roe and Planned Parenthood v. Casey. The other four justices include Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett.

The activists are also targeting Chief Justice John Roberts whose questions during oral argument in Dobbs suggested that he was looking to uphold Mississippi’s abortion ban without overturning Roe.

On Saturday, pro-abortion activists in Virginia and Maryland assembled at the homes of the Roberts and Kavanaugh. Activists outside Kavanaugh's home chanted "we will not go back," and picketed with signs.

Legal analyst Jonathan Turley reported that it was Kavanaugh's neighbor that organized the protest at the justice’s home. The protest began at a café in Chevy Chase, then activists marched to the homes of Roberts and Kavanaugh.

Ruth Sent Us provided maps to the exact locations of the homes of Alito, Barrett, Roberts, Kavanaugh, Thomas, and  Gorsuch on their website. The name of the group is a reference to the late Ruth Ginsburg, who passed away in 2020 and whom President Donald Trump replaced with Justice Barrett. The groups claimed the late justice would have opposed overturning Roe.

However, Ginsburg had criticized Roe despite being a supporter of a constitutional right to abortion. She repeatedly said that Roe was badly reasoned and vulnerable to harsh criticism and even faulted where Roe suggested an abortion right could be found. Ginsburg believed the right was on better legal standing if it was guaranteed by the Fourteenth Amendment’s Equal Protection Clause rather than in the Constitution’s Due Process Clause.

Another far-left group called ShutDown DC is reportedly planning a protest outside of Alito's house on May 9.

According to the Code of Virginia, "Any person who shall engage in picketing before or about the residence or dwelling place of any individual, or who shall assemble with another person or persons in a manner which disrupts or threatens to disrupt any individual's right to tranquility in his home, shall be guilty of a Class 3 misdemeanor."

When the White House was asked about the President's thoughts on protesters demonstrating outside the homes of justices, outgoing Press Secretary Jen Psaki said "The President believes in peaceful protest."

"He believes that's part of our democracy and part of the history of the United States in this country," Psaki continued. "But he also respects and understands the independence of the third branch of government. And I mean, obviously the Justice Department, but also the role of the Supreme Court and what they play. So I wouldn't say he has a view on that. He believes in peaceful protest, but they're going to make decisions they make and we're not going to prejudge the final opinion."

Saturday night there was little liberal media coverage of the protests outside the justices’ homes.

Across the country, pro-abortion activists have reportedly vandalized Catholic Churches and pregnancy resource centers with pro-abortion messages. The Madison, Wisconsin headquarters of a pro-life organization was vandalized with Molotov cocktails.
