A Maine state trooper is being applauded for his actions on Wednesday after saving an elderly man with Alzheimer's who got lost during a winter storm.

State troopers responded to Vassalboro at around 5 am after a town plow truck driver reported seeing the man walking outside earlier that morning, according to WBZ4.

82-year-old Bernard Perry was found after he had wandered away from home, "suffering from severe hypothermia and frostbite," in a ditch on the side of the road.

"Trooper Harrington carried Perry to his cruiser as he was unable to walk and awaited the arrival of an ambulance," State Police said.

According to WBZ4, Perry is now recovering at a hospital from the incident.

"We are grateful Bernard Perry was found in a timely manner and is recuperating," State Police said.

"We are also thankful for Trooper Harrington, Maine State Police Troopers and all Law Enforcement Officers in Maine who do an exceptional job protecting the citizens of Maine and all those who visit our great state," they continued.

Maine State Police posted dash cam footage of the incident to their Facebook page, where Trooper Harrington was praised for saving the lost senior citizen.
