A man in Ellis, Kansas met an 8-year-old girl from Bloomfield Township, Michigan in a video game online and struck a deal to give her in-game cash in exchange for nude videos.

The man, known as “John” inside the online game called Roblox, befriended the child inside the game. He eventually convinced the girl to send him various videos, each one with less than less clothes on. In return he topped off her in-game account with the virtual currency that is used in the game.

According to WDIV, “John” was found out to be Clinton McElroy, a 48 year old man living in Ellis, KS.

The child’s mother became suspicious and called her local police after finding out about the relationship between the pedophile “John” and her daughter. Bloomfield Township detectives made a house call and identified more than 20 videos of the child recorded on her iPad.

They then uncovered “John”’s true identity and traced him to his current address, and proceeded to get in touch with the Ellis County authorities in Kansas. “John,” or McElroy, was already a registered sex offender in Kansas due to a previous arrest and conviction for a similar incident.

On September 17, McElroy was arrested at his home and taken to jail. The following day, he was arraigned. The charges he is currently facing are: sexual exploitation of a child and aggravated internet trading in child pornography. Bail was set at $1 million USD.
