On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Friday night, actor Matthew McConaughey told Jimmy Fallon that he is giving serious consideration to running for Governor of Texas.

McConaughey, who was on the show to discuss he and his wife’s upcoming  benefit concert, called the consideration “the honorable thing to do.”

“Well, it’s come up a lot lately. And I’m gonna say to you now the same thing I’ve been saying, which is true. It’s not a dodge. And when I say it’s something I’m giving consideration, absolutely. What an honorable thing to even be able to consider. But that’s no further than that right now, sir," said McConaughey.

Earlier in the month, McConaughey told The Balanced Voice podcast that he had been considering running.

I'm looking into now again, what is my leadership role?" he said. "Because I do think I have some things to teach and share, and what is my role? What's my category in my next chapter of life that I'm going into?” he said.

McConaughey also went on to promote he and his wife Camila Alves‘s upcoming virtual benefit concert. The Sunday night benefit, called We’re Texans, will raise money for Texans affected by the historic winter storms last month that left many without power, water, and heat across the state. The star studded lineup filled with Texas natives includes performances by George Strait, Willie Nelson, Kelly Clarkson, Post Malone, and special appearances by Chip & Joanna Gaines, Jaime Fox, Joe Rogan, Megan  The Stallion and more.
