Former Secretary of State in the Trump administration Mike Pompeo is planning to run for president in 2024. Though his former boss has not yet announced a run himself, it is widely believed that Trump is intending to seek a second term and stage an electoral rematch against President Joe Biden.

Pompeo was speaking to veterans and supporters in Chicago this week, telling them "We've got a team in Iowa, a team in New Hampshire and South Carolina. And that's not random. We are doing the things one would do to get ready." This according to Politico.

Pompeo has been making public appearances this week, taking time to appear on Jesse Watters' Fox News show to give his view on Florida Governor Ron DeSantis plans to send illegal aliens north to sanctuary states and cities.

"Confirmed via a hundred sources, Mike Pompeo is telling people he wants to primary Trump," Jack Posobiec of Human Events Daily said back in October 2021.

"Unlike others," Pompeo said, "if I got down an escalator, no one wll notice." He was speaking at a fundraising event for veterans leaving service and embarking on life in the private sector. $6.3 million was raised.

"We are trying to figure out if that is the next place for us to serve," he said of a potential run. "If we conclude it is, we'll go make the case to the American people of why that is. And in the end, the American people, I pray, will make a good decision about who's going to be their next leader."

Pompeo's remarks about potentially primarying his former boss came during a question and answer period with the CEO of Motorola Solutions Greg Brown.

Of Trump, Pompeo said "I'm deeply grateful" to have been hired as secretary of state, and I hope he enjoys retirement."

As to the threats Pompeo perceives to the US, he said that the biggest external threat is China, and internally he cited teachers unions.
