On Tuesday, Taylor Walls, a shortstop for the Tampa Bay Rays, recently publicly supported Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) and his support for biologically female athletes who are now being forced to compete against biological males.

Christina Pushaw, DeSantis's press secretary, commented on her Twitter account, "Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Taylor Walls comments yesterday, after media asked him why he tweeted that he agreed with @GovRonDeSantis stance on fairness in women's sports:"

"In my opinion, I don’t think I did anything wrong," mentioned Walls in an interview after his Wednesday game.

"I think I just gave my opinion. Some people may have taken that out of context. And I’m very sorry to them. I respect them. I don’t mean any disrespect to anybody at all."

He continued, emphasizing that, for him, this is not a political issue. “Usually, I try to keep politics away from everything," he noted.

"Other people’s views are other people’s views. I respect that 100 percent. The same way I feel that mine should be respected, too. So, no, I’m not a big political-rant guy, I’m not trying to spark many conversations."

Wells originally had reproduced a statement from Gov. DeSantis on the issue, simply commenting "Couldn't agree more."

Gov. DeSantis previously signed a bill into law protecting women's and girls' sports from competition by biologically male athletes, saying that his administration goes off "biology, not ideology when we're doing sports."
