Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) says although he believes NYC Mayor Eric Adams should have his day in court to respond to the current charges against him, Adams can’t “effectively lead” under the current circumstances and “must resign.”

The senor Democratic congressman from NYC posted, “I have long been a defender of civil rights and civil liberties, and i strongly believe that every individual, no matter who they are, is guaranteed due process under the law, while the criminal charges outlined in the indictment by the us attorney for the southern district of New York are very serious. However, there are questions of whether the Mayor can continue to effectively lead our City as Mayor at this time. My belief is that the Mayor has lost the ability to effectively lead the City of New York, and therefore, he must resign.”

Adams has been indicted for accepting foreign campaign donations, bribery and wire fraud. He has professed his innocence of all charges.

Nadler joined Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) in unambiguously calling for Adams’ resignation. Nadler may also be thinking of his close friend, former New York City Comptroller Scott Stringer, who is reportedly also looking to run for mayor in 2025, Politico noted.

Rep. Nydia Velazquez (D-NY) told Spectrum News that Adams really doesn’t have many options and if she were the mayor, "I would have resigned today." But she did not insist he quit now.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, like House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, is not demanding that Adams go, even though he acknowledged the “charges are serious.” If Adams does resign, he would likely be replaced by a far-left, anti-cop activist named Jumaane Williams.
