Ontario continues to smash previous records as Thursday's total COVID cases have clocked in a 3,328 in a 24-hour period, along with 56 deaths, which is the highest death count since May 12.

New transmissions of the virus were up from 2,923 on Wednesday and 2,553 on Tuesday. All three days were record-breakers as far as new cases are concerned.

Out of the 56 deaths, 39 were of residents of long-term care facilities, according to CTV News.

Testing is also at or near record levels, with 63,858 tests being processed in the same 24-hour lapse of time. The positivity rate has also been climbing, with the corresponding number for this last period being 5.7 percent. All numbers are way up from the seeming statistical valley of a few months ago.

Regions hardest hit are Toronto, Peel Region, York, and Windsor-Essex, all having over 250 new cases in the latest 24-hour period. Toronto on Wednesday had an astounding 998 new cases on its own, and recently had another 888.

Currently there are 1,235 people hospitalized for the coronavirus and its secondary effects in Ontario. Of those, 337 are in intensive care, and of those 337, 210 are on ventilators.

Ontario is under a strict lockdown which took effect on Dec. 26 and is slated to last through Jan. 9 as of this writing.

People are being urged to celebrate New Years Eve at home, or, if you live alone, with only one other household.
