Conservative Leader Erin O'Toole stressed his commitment to releasing a "clear and comprehensive plan" on fighting climate change after the Trudeau Liberals embarked on a strategy to paint the party as climate-change deniers.

This after the Conservative Party convention saw members reject a motion to declare climate change as real.

Liberals went after the Tories in Parliament on Monday, including Environment Minister Jonathan Wilkinson who said: "I know it is discouraging to many Canadians that a major political party in this country will not acknowledge this basic scientific fact and the threat it poses to future generations."

During Tuesday's press conference, O'Toole said: "As I said in my speech, we're going to make sure we address the needs of Canadians in 2021, and that means we're going to make some changes, and have stronger and clearer policies as we grow the confidence of Canadians in the next election."

"Climate change is an important subject that Canadians want to see that we have a serious plan on. We will have that. Mr. Trudeau has actually been failing on his plan, and now broke his promise about tripling his carbon tax," he said.

"We will have a clear and comprehensive plan on reducing emissions, while also making sure Canadians get back to work with our plan to get Canada moving again after the pandemic."
