The Quebec government is considering reintroducing a curfew on its citizens due to the omicron variant, according to the Montreal Gazette.

French-language press outlets are reporting that the curfew would be set from 10 PM to 5 AM. 274 healthcare workers have caught coronavirus in the past 24 hours in the province.

Quebec will also deploy a two-week-long shutdown on all non-essential businesses. On top of this, they will reduce family gatherings to six.

The provincial government will also limit unnecessary surgeries, so that hospital beds can be freed up.

Premier Francois Legault has said that decisions will be made depending on "the capacity we will or will not have to treat sick Quebecers over the coming weeks."

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also addressed Canadians today on the Omicron situation, promising a better winter and spring if Canadians keep their guards up.

The prime minister told Canadians that while they may be tired, efforts would need to work to protect healthcare workers, who have not had a break.

Trudeau said that his government would be temporarily expanding key programs such as Canada Worker Lockdown Benefit (CWLB), which Canadians can apply for if they are affected by capacity-limiting restrictions.

"We need to prevent Omicron from overwhelming our health care systems. In order to do that, we need to keep contacts low," said Trudeau.
