US House Representatives Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Ken Buck (R-OH), both members of the GOP Judiciary Committee, sent a strongly-worded letter to Twitter on Thursday demanding answers the company was supposed to provide months ago.
"Twitter is out to get conservatives. @Jim_Jordan and @RepKenBuck want answers," said the House Judiciary GOP Twitter account in its tweet.
The letter, addressed to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, and cc'ed to two other House committees, is reproduced within the tweet. It reads, in part:
"Dear Mr. Dorsey: Big Tech, especially Twitter, Inc., is engaged in systematic viewpoint-based discrimination. In the unfortunate phenomenon of 'cancel culture,' Twitter plays a leading role in silencing and censoring political speech of conservative Americans."
"In recent months, Twitter throttled the dissemination of a mainstream newspaper article critical of then-candidate Joe Biden's son and later took the unprecedented step of de-platforming the sitting President of the United States."
"If Twitter can do this to the President of the United States, it can do it to any American for any reason."
The letter goes on to explain that bank in July 2020, documentation from Twitter had been requested, and that although "Twitter's lawyers offered a telephonic briefing", the information requested has never been supplied by Twitter.
The letter than re-iterates previous requests, including information on how Twitter handled the issue of mail-in voting and documents relating to a June 23, 2020 tweet by Donald Trump talking about the autonomous zone in Washington DC and Twitter's decision that it violated its policies.
The letter closes with, "We expect to receive the documents as soon as possible but no later than 5:00pm on March 18, 2021. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter."
