COVID cases are increasing in Toronto, with 504 new cases announced Monday. These new cases are now leading city officials to enact new and strict restrictions related to COVID.

The restrictions are to be announced on Tuesday. "What you can expect is strong, responsible action based on best practices and best-available advice," said Mayor John Tory on Monday.

"In just three three days, we've reported almost 1,350 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Toronto," said Toronto’s top doctor Eileen de Villa. "These case count numbers are the most concerning I've seen here in Toronto since the pandemic started."

The Peel region has also seen a surge in COVID cases, which has led to new restrictive measures. Toronto city officials dodged questions when pressed whether these new restrictions will match those of the Peel region.

New measures in the Peel region include closures of meeting and event spaces and a prohibition of visiting other households. This also includes restrictions on going to restaurants, unless you are seated with individuals from your own household.

It remains to be seen whether Toronto will match these harsh measures.
