CFO Allen Weisselberg plead not guilty on Thursday to tax fraud, both on behalf of himself and the Trump Organization for which he works.

The prosecutor for the case, Carey Dunne, stated during the arraignment, "It was orchestrated by the most senior executives who were financially benefiting themselves and the company, by getting secret pay raises at the expense of state and federal taxpayers."

According to Reuters, the investigation into the Trump Organization was started by the Manhattan DA Cyrus Vance conducted over the past nearly three years. Both Dunne and Vance are registered Democrats and vociferous anti-Trumpers.

In response, Alan Futerfas, a Trump Organization attorney said, "If the name of this company was something else, I don't think these charges would have been brought."

The organization itself issued a formal statement saying that Weisselberg is "a pawn in a scorched earth attempt to harm the former president." The statement went on to day "This is not justice; this is politics."

As of this writing, it is not certain whether or not charges will be brought against Donald Trump himself. It is also not clear what role, if any, Trump still has at the company which bears his name, since it was put into a trust just before he began serving as President of the United States in Jan. 2017.
