Before his testimony given at Tuesday’s first hearing of the January 6 select committee, Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn asked for a moment of silence for a fellow fallen officer, Brian Sicknick.

Dunn asked "for a moment of silence for my fallen colleague Officer Brian Sicknick, who died from injuries he sustained in the line of duty defending the capital of our beloved democracy."

Sicknick’s death was reported by the Washington DC Chief Medical Examiner in April as being a result of natural causes after suffering two strokes.

Rumors before that report said that Sicknick had been bludgeoned by rioters with a fire extinguisher, and that he suffered an allergic reaction due to chemical irritants used to disperse the crowds.

Both were found not to be true during the autopsy.

Many outlets, like CNN, reported on the fire extinguisher rumor, and went back to quietly update their reports.

The examiner’s report did, however, note that the riot may have played a part in causing the stroke, stating that "all that transpired played a role in his condition."
