WATCH: DeSantis to pardon Floridians charged with violating COVID mask and social distancing restrictions

He will "sign a reprieve" for 60 days, and then when the clemency board meets, pardons will be issued "for any Floridian who may have outstanding infractions for things like masks and social distancing."

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said that he would grant pardons to anyone who had been charged with violations of COVID regulations. Anyone who is facing charges for not wearing masks, or not socially distancing, will receive clemency from a governor who has consistently come down on the side of citizens' rights as opposed to COVID-inspired limitations on freedoms.

Speaking to Laura Ingraham on Fox News, DeSantis said that judges who mete out sentences for restriction violations are making "a total overreach," and that these are "exactly what we ordered against last summer."

After being briefed on cases of people being charged and sentenced, he will "sign a reprieve" for 60 days, and then when the clemency board meets, pardons will be issued "for any Floridian who may have outstanding infractions for things like masks and social distancing."

He decried the policies enacted that require people to wear masks while exercising, saying that even the World Health Organization has advised against wearing masks while exercising.

DeSantis has been at the forefront of states that have eschewed nonsensical COVID restrictions and opted instead to allow people to make their own decisions and assessments. He said that these restrictions were meant to be advisors, not enforceable by law.

DeSantis has also filed suit against the CDC, saying "Do you want one unelected bureaucracy to be able to have the power to indefinitely shut down a major industry in this country?"

"Now here we are over a year later and there’s no end in sight. Now they say you can only cruise if you have 98 percent people show proof of vaccination, but that’s ridiculous," said DeSantis. "They’re cruising in other parts of the world where they don’t even have availability of vaccines yet, where they have much higher Covid than in the United States."

Discussing the overreach of the CDC, DeSantis said that the CDC is following the politics, not the science.

"This has implications for potentially any industry and look, with all due respect to the CDC, I mean if you look at some of the stuff that they’ve done on school openings, where they’re basically doing the teacher’s union’s bidding, when they say these kids should be masked in summer camp outdoors. I’m sorry, that’s not science, that's politics."
