On Thursday, billionaires Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss announced that they had donated the equivalent of $2 million in Bitcoin to Donald Trump's campaign. The former cited Joe Biden's "war against crypto" as his motivating factor, suggesting that under a second Trump term, everyone who buys, sells, or creates digital currencies would be far better off.

While Trump said he was "not a fan" of cryptocurrencies during his previous term, over the past few months he has changed his tune to fully embrace the technology. In May, he became the first major political candidate in the United States to accept donations in crypto.

"I just donated $1 million in bitcoin (15.47 BTC) to [Donald Trump] and will be voting for him in November," Tyler Winklevoss wrote in a post on X. "Over the past few years, the Biden Administration has openly declared war against crypto. It has weaponized multiple government agencies to bully, harass, and sue the good actors in our industry in an effort to destroy it."

The Gemini co-founder and former Olympic rower suggested the administration's actions were "nothing short of an unprecedented abuse of power wielded entirely for twisted political gain at the expense of innovation, the American taxpayer, and the American economy," and that, "there is nothing the Biden Administration can do or say at this point to pretend otherwise."

Winklevoss went on to break down a number of the moves Biden has taken against crypto via the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, agencies that license and regulate national banks and provide deposit insurance to banks, respectively. He also suggested the fact that the Securities and Exchange Commission had failed to write a single rule for the crypto industry was "by design."

"President Donald J. Trump is the pro-Bitcoin, pro-crypto, and pro-business choice," he concluded. "This is not even remotely open for debate. Anyone who tells you otherwise is severely misinformed, delusional, or not telling the truth. It's time for the crypto army to send a message to Washington. That attacking us is political suicide."

Just minutes later, Cameron revealed via X that he, too had donated $1 million worth of Bitcoin to Trump, stating that Trump is "Pro-Bitcoin, Pro-Crypto, Pro-Business," and will "put an end to the Biden Administration's war on crypto."
