On Wednesday, the People's Daily, the main mouthpiece for the communist party inside China, claimed that president-for-life Xi Jinping has had complete success with his "rural revitalization" program.

On Sunday, Chinese officials released what is known by them as a "No. 1 policy document", claiming it will stick with its poverty alleviation policies.

According to the Financial Post, China's definition of extreme poverty is some 30-odd percent below the World Bank's, which is considered a world standard.

Critics worldwide have harshly criticized China's statistics, considering that China has a complete lack of transparency due to the lack of a free press within China. As such, there is no way to verify anything Chinese officials claim is true.

On the specific issue of poverty, this article by the Washington Post, among many others, makes a good case as to why the numbers China puts out to the rest of the world probably have little to no basis in reality.

China has also come under fire recently for many egregious human rights violations, including what the US and Canadian governments have formally called genocide against ethnic minorities, especially in the Xinjiang region.

They have also been caught lying over and over again about such subjects as the origin of the novel coronavirus, which calls into question all their other communications as suspect.

In true Chinese Communist Party style, the comments section is closed for the article on the Financial Post.
