Chuck Schumer, Democrats dismiss Mayorkas impeachment without trial

"We are not saying, Don’t come. We are saying, don’t come now because we will be able to deliver a safe and orderly process to them as quickly as possible."

In a move that came as a surprise to no one, Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats declined to hold an impeachment hearing into Biden's DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas after the House of Representatives delivered the articles on Monday.

Two articles of impeachment were dismissed in the Senate, and a trial has been avoided. This is the first time in 225 years that the Senate took up a vote to dismiss the impeachment articles without holding a trial or bringing the articles to a committee for review. Democrats said the articles did not rise to the level of "high crimes and misdemeanors."

For Democrats, however, massive illegal immigration across the US-Mexico border is a feature of their governance strategy, not a bug.

The refusal comes after Majority Leader Schumer moved to table the impeachment, basically with the intention of never hearing it again. Schumer argued that the trial wasn't necessary, claiming that the articles provided by the House were "the least legitimate, least substantive and most politicized impeachment trial ever in the history of the United States."

This from the man who demanded an impeachment trial be brought against Donald Trump during his term in the White House, despite the poorly sourced evidence in that case. The impeachment was over Russia collusion in the 2016 election, a charge which has been proven to be of Democrat manufacture.

"The charges brought against Secretary Mayorkas fail to meet the high standards of high crimes and misdemeanors. To validate this gross abuse by the House would be a grave mistake and could set a dangerous precedent for the future," Schumer said.

The House brought the articles of impeachment as a means to oust the man that, along with his boss Joe Biden, is responsible for a broken border, immigration, and asylum system that has seen record-breaking illegal immigration since Biden took office in 2021.

At a March 1, 2021 press briefing, Mayorkas told migrants: "We are not saying, Don’t come. We are saying, don’t come now because we will be able to deliver a safe and orderly process to them as quickly as possible." The migrants began flowing in from all corners of the world, many to apply for asylum.

Once those illegal immigrants were given dates to have their asylum cases heard in court, often 5 or more years down the road, they have been permitted to remain in the United States where they are given access to free healthcare, housing, cash, and other items from taxpayer dollars, provided by cities and states like New York, Chicago, and California that are overwhelmed by the crisis.

Mayorkas has said Congress must change the rules that Biden changed on the first days in the White House.

DHS spokesperson Mia Ehrenberg said that the refusal of the Senate to take up the charges "proves definitively that there was no evidence or Constitutional grounds to justify impeachment."

"It’s time for Congressional Republicans to support the Department’s vital mission instead of wasting time playing political games and standing in the way of commonsense, bipartisan border reforms," she continued.

House Speaker Mike Johnson had harsh words for Senate Dems, saying "By voting unanimously to bypass their constitutional responsibility, every single Senate Democrat has issued their full endorsement of the Biden Administration’s dangerous open border policies. The American people will hold Senate Democrats accountable for this shameful display."

It was reported earlier on Tuesday that Schumer could be heard in the Senate bragging about how Congressional Republicans were doing the bidding of Democrats.
