"Our amazing commissioner," Adams said, "is prepared for whatever comes on Rikers Island."

New York City Mayor Eric Adams spoke to press on Tuesday, and detailed the response from the New York City Department of Corrections should Donald Trump be ordered to jail on Rikers Island.

"Our amazing commissioner," Adams began, "is prepared for whatever comes on Rikers Island," Adams told the media when asked about the potentiality by press. Judge Juan Merchan has already found Trump in contempt of court over gag order violations and has fined Trump $1,000 per offense. He has threatened Trump with jail time should there be more alleged violations.

"I'm pretty sure [the Department of Corrections commissioner] would be prepared to manage and deal with the situation," Adams continued. "As you see what's happening with Harvey Weinstein, we have to adjust, you know, in this business, particularly around law enforcement, we have to adjust whatever comes our way."

"We don't want to deal with a hypothetical, but they're professionals, they'll be ready."

On Monday, Trump was found in contempt for gag order violations for the 10th time. Those violations included social media posts of articles on his Truth Social account. Some of those "violations" were duplicate posts.

Merchan said that the "last thing" he wants to do is jail Trump, but he did put it on the table. In response to that threat, Trump said "Frankly, our Constitution is much more important than jail. I'll do that sacrifice any day."

Trump has done as he's told repeatedly throughout this trial, from sitting in court every day, per Merchan's order, to not attending the Supreme Court hearing on his immunity motion in another criminal trial brought against him, this time by Joe Biden's own Department of Justice.

Rikers Island is notorious for violence among the jail population in New York.
