Pro-Israel Native Americans told UCLA Gaza camp activists on Tuesday to get off campus, saying "Hamas and supporters are not welcome on Native land."
The group of Native Americans accused radical Gaza activists of trespassing and joined counter-protests in support of Jewish students, whom they claim are welcome on native soil.
This occurred moments before UCLA's Royce Quad degenerated into a bloody battlefield on Tuesday night when vigilantes sought to destroy the Gaza encampment, which has been the source of antisemitism and violent attacks on Jewish students and community members.
Video footage shows Native American protesters standing behind fencing and facing off against leftist activists inside the encampment. The group blared indigenous music over loudspeakers and held up signs in support of Jewish students.
The signs included phrases that read: "Hamas and supporters are not welcome on Native land," "Jewish students are welcome on Native land," and "Three warring Abrahamic tribes are now trespassing on my continents."
One video posted to X shows an indigenous man drumming to add extra noise outside the camp.
Moments later, the group blared the National Anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance. Additional counter-protesters arrived on the scene with Israeli flags and joined them in singing the patriotic songs.
However, the peaceful protest turned violent when the opposing groups began fighting, transforming Royce Quad into a battlefield. Protesters were left bloodied and severely injured after charging at each other with makeshift weaponry.
As a result of the violence, UCLA cancelled classes on Wednesday and Thursday.
