On Wednesday, Harvard students stormed the courtyard and constructed a Gaza Camp in protest of Israel's war against Hamas terrorists, becoming the latest Ivy League university to establish a pro-Palestinian encampment, which have emerged on college campuses throughout the United States this past week.
Video footage shows students taking over the Harvard Yard and setting up tents. It appeared to be done in a pre-planned coordinated fashion as the protesters all sprinted on the grass at the same time, throwing their tents and sleeping items on the ground and chanting, "Free Palestine."
Many of the students are wearing keffiyeh scarves in the clip.
This prompted Harvard University to shut down access to the yard to anyone who is not affiliated with the school, according to a sign posted at the famous schoolyard entrance.
"Structures, including tents and tables, are not permitted in the Yard without prior permission. Blocking pedestrian pathways or access to building entrances is prohibited," the sign reads, per The Hill. "Students violating these policies are subject to disciplinary action."
This comes just months after Harvard students and faculty made headlines over frequent allegations of antisemitism, specifically after official student organizations published a joint open letter supporting Hamas's Oct. 7 terrorist attack on Israel, which sparked immense backlash and job offers being rescinded.
Additionally, former Harvard President Claudine Gay resigned in disgrace in January after she refused to classify calls for the genocide of Jews as going against the university's official code of conduct in a heated congressional hearing. This prompted Harvard mega-donors, such as Bill Ackman, to cease providing any further donations to the school.
Harvard students launched the encampment less than one day after the school placed the Harvard Palestine Solidarity Committee under suspension, according to the group.
Harvard now joins other colleges that have created similar anti-Israel Gaza Camps. This includes Columbia University, New York University, MIT, Yale, Cal Poly State at Humboldt, University of Michigan, University of California Berkeley, and others.
Officials at Harvard have not yet publicly commented on the matter.
