Advice columnist E. Jean Carroll has big plans for the $83 million she was awarded after winning a defamation suit against Donald Trump.
She was asked by Rachel Maddow how she would use the money to "shore up women's rights," something that Carroll has said was her goal.
"You've talked about using some of Trump's money, that you're about to get, to help shore up women's rights," Maddow said. "Do you know what that might be? What that might look like?"
"Yes, Rachel, yes," Carroll gushed.
"Tell me!" Maddow said.
"I have such great ideas for all the good I'm going to do with this money," Carroll said while Maddow laughed.
"First thing, Rachel, you and I are gonna go shopping. We're gonna get completely new wardrobes, new shoes," and she talked about getting a motorcycle for one of her attorneys and a fishing rod for the other as they all beamed.
"Rachel, what do you want? Penthouse?" Carroll asked. "It's yours!"
"Nothing," Maddow chuckled.
"Penthouse and France? You want France?" Carroll asked. "You wanna go fishing in France?" Maddow shook her head. "No? Alright."
"That's a joke," her lawyer interjected.
"If me fishing in France could do something for women's rights I would take the hit," Maddow said. "I would obviously take one for the team."
Maddow, Carroll, and her attorneys all had a nice big laugh over that one.
Carroll won $83 million in a defamation suit against Donald Trump after he claimed she was nuts for saying he raped her, which he has staunchly, consistently and firmly said he did not do.
Carroll claimed he raped her in the iconic Bergdorf Goodman department store some time in the mid 1990s, though she has never provided either an exact date or an exact year.
She brought the accusations in 2019 when Trump was president, right after she released a book. The book sales were pretty poor until the accusations were made and then they really picked up.
A jury determined that Trump "sexually assaulted" Carroll but did not rape her, and they made the determination in a civil case where the bar is so low that no evidence needed to be provided to prove Carroll's claim.
