Pierre Poilievre takes aim at Trudeau wanting 'all the power and none of the responsibility'

"He wants to control every aspect of your life, and then when he ruins your life, he wants to take none of the responsibility for the ruin that he caused."

Conservative Party of Canada leader Pierre Poilievre took the stage at the Canada Strong and Free Networking Conference this week to take aim at Trudeau's response to the hearings on foreign interference in Canadian elections as well as his "illiberal" policies. He delivered the keynote address to a packed room of enthusiastic supporters.

"Of course what we're investigating is whether a foreign dictatorship interfered in our democracy in multiple elections to help him win—a communist dictatorship seeking to keep in office someone who said he admires that communist dictatorship," he said.

Poilievre said that Trudeau "wants all the power, and none of the responsibility."

"When there is actually a risk of manipulation by hostile and malicious actors like say a communist regime in Beijing, he can't even take the responsibility of reading his briefing notes."

"He wants to control every aspect of your life, and then when he ruins your life, he wants to take none of the responsibility for the ruin that he caused."

Poilievre questioned why a communist dictatorship would want to keep Trudeau in power.

"Why? Because he's good for Canada? Or is it because he admires their basic Chinese communist dictatorship? He admits that he admires Fidel Castro and his policy agenda would seem to point in that direction."

"Whenever we have gone wrong, it is because we have gotten away from those basic principles of human freedom, and favoured too much state coercion and control."

Poilievre also said that "What Trudeau has done is not only to break with the common sense Canadian consensus, it's to break with liberalism itself."

"He wants to be everywhere, always. See the thing is, it's not that Justin Trudeau is too liberal, it's that he's not liberal at all. He is deeply, deeply illiberal."

"It would have been unimaginable 8 years ago before Justin Trudeau to think that not only would he pass a law to control what you can see and say on the internet, but he would then put forward another law which could put you under house arrest or a peace bond under suspicion of something unacceptable you might say in the future."

"If he had read 1984, he would have thought it was an instruction manual and not a warning."

Poilieve also spoke at length about other matters affecting Canadians such as affordability crisis and skyrocketing crime, describing why Liberal policies aren't working and outlining Conservative plans to make life better after Trudeau is gone.

He then painted a message of hope for the future.

"These are our people. That is our country. This is our home. Your home, my home, our home, let's bring it home. Thank you very much. God bless Canada."
