Two officers were shot while confronting the active shooting suspect.
According to the Farmington Police Department, two officers were shot while confronting the suspect. The two officers have been transported to the hospital in stable condition, with one belonging to the Farmington Police Department and the other with New Mexico State Police.
The 18-year-old male suspect, whose identity has not yet been released, was shot and killed on the scene, the department said in a Facebook post. Three victims found with gunshot wounds were pronounced dead at the scene.
The post from FPD reads: "Farmington Police Department, San Juan County Sheriff’s Office, and the New Mexico State Police are on scene investigating an incident involving an active shooter in Farmington. At this time, the details we have are that multiple officers from the Farmington Police Department were involved in an officer-involved shooting. One suspect was confronted and killed on the scene."
"The suspect’s identity is unknown and there are no other known threats at this time. Two officers were shot, one from the Farmington Police Department and one from New Mexico State Police, both currently at San Juan Regional Medical Center being treated for their injuries and in stable condition. There are multiple civilian victims with at least 3 deceased. We will provide more details as they become available," they added.
The ATF tweeted on Monday afternoon that its Phoenix division was "responding to a report of a mass shooting" in Farmington.
This incident is still under investigation and police are asking the public for any information to call dispatch at 505-334-6622.
