"If Secretary Mayorkas does not resign, House Republicans will investigate every order, every action, and every failure to determine whether we can begin an impeachment inquiry," he said.

During a Tuesday press conference in El Paso, Texas, House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy called on Department of Homeland Security secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to resign over his failure to get the southern border crisis under control.

Speaking to the press during a tour of the southern border, McCarthy expressed that the United States "may never recover from Secretary Mayorkas' dereliction of duty."

"This is why today I am calling on the Secretary to resign," McCarthy stated. "He cannot and must not remain in that position."

McCarthy went on to issue an ultimatum to Mayorkas.

"If Secretary Mayorkas does not resign, House Republicans will investigate every order, every action, and every failure to determine whether we can begin an impeachment inquiry," he said, stating that January 3, when the Republicans take control of the House, is the date by which he must resign.

"The American public deserve more, deserve better, and expect more from their government," he added. "Enough is enough. We will do whatever it takes. This is my commitment to the men and women of the Border Patrol and to the citizens of the United States of America."

A growing number of Republicans are calling for Mayorkas' resignation over the ongoing crisis at the southern border, which saw over 2 million illegal immigrants crossing during the 2022 fiscal year.

"We have talked to dozens of border control agents today," Rep. August Pfluger said at the same press conference. "Not a single agent today has claimed that the border is secure, in fact, they say that it is the most open that it has been in their entire career."

McCarthy went on to describe how border control agents right now are not feeling valued or appreciated, and that they lack the appropriate resources to do their job.

"Mr. Secretary, we have one message for you," Rep. August Pfluger added. "You need to resign."

Migrants from a number of different Central and South American countries continue to flood into the US in ever-increasing numbers, overwhelming border communities that take the brunt of failing immigration policies.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has been sending busloads of migrants away to several self-proclaimed sanctuary cities across the country as a means of relieving the pressure on the border towns and to bring to the public's attention what these towns go through.
