A DeSantis super PAC is running an attack ad on former President Donald Trump by utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) to mimic his voice, which has sparked outrage among both officials within the Trump campaign and Republican voters.

The advertisement produced by DeSantis super PAC Never Back Down features recent "disrespect" shown from Donald Trump towards Iowa Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds, according to Politico.

The ad features AI-generated audio of Trump's voice based on a post the former President made on Truth Social last week, in which he had criticized Governor Reynolds for not endorsing a Republican candidate.

The video will run in Iowa on Tuesday and cost the PAC nearly $1 million. It will also run on digital platforms and through text messages, the outlet reports.

Trump campaign senior adviser Chris LaCivita slammed the use of AI against political opponents and called it a "desperate attempt" from Team DeSantis who are currently trying to revive the governor's campaign following stagnant poll numbers.

"The blatant use of AI to fabricate President Trump's voice is a desperate attempt by Always Back Down and Jeff Roe to deceive the American public because they know DeSanctimonious’ campaign is on life support," LaCivita said, referring to a top official with the pro-DeSantis super PAC.

"After losing big donors and slashing their staff, they have now outsourced their work to AI just like they would like to outsource American jobs to China," he added.

The launch of the advertisement follows reports of Gov. Ron DeSantis being summoned to Southhampton, New York to have a crisis meeting with major East Coast donors amid stalling poll numbers later this week.

DeSantis donors are reportedly worried that the governor's current poll numbers present a threat to his chances of overtaking former President Donald Trump in the primary, who is the current Republican presidential frontrunner. Trump has been dominating his competition in the polls across the board, with recent campaign rallies boasting more than 50,000 people.

Another ad from June saw the DeSantis campaign using artificially created images of Trump hugging and kissing former NIAID Director Anthony Fauci interspersed with real images of the two.
