As the new term of Congress quickly approaches, a number of Democrat lawmakers have stepped up in support of Rep. Hakeem Jeffries being the new leader of Democrats in the House chamber.

On Thursday, it was revealed that Democrat Rep. Steny Hoyer, current House Majority Leader would be stepping down from his leadership role, and backing Jeffries as the new leader.

This comes as current Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi announced the same day that she would not be seeking reelection to Democratic leadership in the next Congress.

After a lengthy speech, Pelosi told the House that it was "with great confidence in our caucus," that she "will not seek reelection to Democratic leadership in the next Congress. For me, the hour's come for a new generation to lead the Democratic caucus that I so deeply respect.

Jeffries has been revealed to have made numerous Twitter posts stating that various elections and Supreme Court seats were "stolen" by Republicans.

Shortly after the 2018 midterm election, Jeffries wrote, "Is the Noth Carolina congressional seat the only one stolen by rouge Republican operatives? We may need a comprehensive criminal investigation to figure that out."

In September of 2021, Jeffries wrote, "Republicans hijacked the Judiciary by stealing two Supreme Court seats. And now they want us to respect illegitimate decisions from these people? Get lost."

In February of this year, Jeffries reiterated his sentiment toward the Supreme Court, stating, "the Supreme Court majority has zero legitimacy. Ghosts of the confederacy are alive and well."

Additionally, Jeffries has made numerous posts taking aim at former President Donald Trump, writing that "history will never accept you as the legitimate president," following the 2020 election,  and "the only person trying to steal the election is you."

"The more we learn about the 2016 election the more illegitimate it becomes," Jeffries wrote in a separate Twitter post.

Earlier this month it was revealed that Democrats had been plotting to get Jeffries in the leadership seat over Nancy Pelosi, with the New York Representative meeting with South Carolina Rep. Jim Clyburn in a September 1 meeting to discuss the topic.

Politico reported that Clyburn said of Jeffries, "There's nothing I would ever do to impede the progress of our up-and-coming young Democrats and I see him as an up-and-coming young Democrat," adding, "'He knows that, I didn't have to tell him that — but I did."

According to Reuters, House Democrats have prepared a "passing of the torch" to Jeffries. House Democrats are set to vote on their leaders on November 30.
