The juvenile, who has not been identified due to her age, has been charged with murder, mob action, aggravated battery, and multiple other charges. Kyle Bickham, 29, fell to his death after being forcefully shoved off the CTA Red Line train on September 7. He tumbled onto the third rail and was then struck by an oncoming train.
According to police, the 15-year-old was arrested on September 11 in the 400 block of W 76th Street. Bickham's father said that the loss has been devastating.
"It's the most hurtful thing that has ever happened," Christopher Bickham Sr. told ABC7. Bickham's mother added, "He was just trying to make an honest day's living, and this is what happened."
Members of his family described him as hardworking, fun to be around, and that he cared deeply for his family. “He loved writing poetry. He loved us. He loved both of his nieces, his brothers, his sister; he just was [an] all-around caring guy,” Bickham Sr. added.
The victim had just moved to a new apartment and had to deal with a long commute in order to make ends meet. “If you’re that evil, to open a door and throw somebody, a live person out, what’s wrong with you? This guy was so kind,” his grandmother Bertha Ford said.
“He’s full of love. He always expresses [it], even to me. If he didn’t have a phone, he gonna make a way to call me to say, ‘Granny, you know I love you so much,'” Ford said. “He always reaches out to me to say, ‘Granny? You know God got you. And I love you so much.'”
A GoFundMe for Bickham's funeral has reached over $15,000 of a goal of $18,000. The family, which started the fundraiser, said of Bickham on the page, "Our hearts are completely broken. ️ Today, we received the devastating news that our beloved Kyle Bickham was found deceased. Kyle was a son, brother, uncle, family member, and friend who was loved by so many. He was a light, goofy, kind, caring, and always able to bring laughter to those around him."
Police are still searching for the other two suspects who helped the 15-year-old girl shove Bickham from the train.
