A new poll released on Wednesday has revealed that inflation is the top concern for Americans in the US.
The Pew Research Center poll found that 65 percent of respondents said that inflation is a "very big problem." An additional 27 percent said inflation was a "moderately big problem."
The issue was the top concern of Republicans, 77 percent of which responded as such, while 52 percent of Democrats said the same.
The poll also found that seven in 10 Americans expect the yearly budget deficit will grow in the next 5 years. The number of Americans that say the budget deficit is a very big national problem has risen from 51 percent in 2022 to 56 percent in 2023.
Among Americans, the affordability of healthcare was the next biggest issue, at 64 percent, followed by the ability of Democrats and Republicans to work together at 62 percent, drug addiction at 61 percent, gun violence at 60 percent, and violent crime at 59 percent.
The poll was conducted between June 5 and 11 of 5,115 American adults and has a margin of error of 1.7 percentage points.
Pew Research Center also found that the majority of voters disapprove of Biden’s job performance at 62 percent. Among this group, 41 percent strongly disapproved and 20 percent "not strongly" disapproved."
The country has experienced sky-high inflation under President Biden, reaching a 40-year peak in June of 2022 at 8.6 percent. Prices for food, gasoline, and fuel oil have seen record highs under Biden, with the highest ever recorded national average price for a gallon of gas being seen on June 14, 2022, at $5.016 per gallon.
