Fully 49 percent of the American population think that vaccine mandates are unacceptable, according to a new poll released on Monday.

49 percent responded saying that vaccine mandates are "an unacceptable infringement on personal rights," whereas 51 percent checked the box that stated that vaccine requirements are "an acceptable way to increase the vaccination rate."

The poll was done by SSRS on behalf of the CNN network, and was conducted over a month. The poll was completely before President Joe Biden announced new vaccine requirements for American employers on Thursday.

The poll also found that 86 percent of Americans agree that the pandemic is not over. Americans were slightly more in favor of vaccine mandates for things like travel, schooling or large-scale events, coming in at 54 or 55 percent, depending on the case. Only 41 percent of Americans support vaccine mandates for activities like grocery shopping, however.

Only 22 percent of Americans have stated in this latest poll that they are not vaccinated and have no plans to change that. And most Americans say that they follow the CDC's guidelines all of the time or some of the time, with only 13 percent saying that they never do so.

The poll was split along party lines. Seventy-five percent of Democrats support vaccine mandates in general, whereas the same 75 percent of Republicans do not.
