Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) took to a virtual town hall on Friday to offer praise to President Joe Biden, who she says "definitely exceeds expectations," Daily Wire reports.

"One thing that I will say is that I do think that, by demonstration, President Biden has definitely exceeded expectations that progressives had," Ocasio-Cortez said. "You know, I'll be frank, I think a lot of us expected a much more conservative administration. And I think that his, not only what has ultimately come out, but the active invitation and willingness and collaboration with progressives in his first 100 days, or almost 100 days, has been very impressive."

Biden has long branded himself as a centrist Democrat, willing to work with both sides of the aisle in order to advance middle-ground policy. During his time as Vice President, the brash and ambitious Barack Obama often relied on Biden to negotiate with Republicans to secure legislation. During the 2020 campaign trail, Biden often boasted that he "beat the socialists," referring to his victory in the presidential primaries over further left challengers such as Bernie Sanders.

However, Biden has since branded himself as the "most progressive president in history," championing various progressive causes including gun control, immigration, and the implementation of equity and inclusion programs in the federal government.

Ocasio-Cortez has taken some criticism from other progressives over her support for Biden, especially in regard to his handling of the border. While conservatives have accused Biden of stoking illegal immigration through amnesty promises and weaker border security rules, progressives have argued that the President has not gone far enough, often pointing to overcrowded immigrations facilities and the fact that children apprehended at the border continue to remain in enclosed spaces.

Other progressives have also criticized Biden for failing to push forward a $15 minimum wage and for offering smaller stimulus checks than expected in the coronavirus relief bill passed earlier this year.
