President Biden signalled Friday that the Department of Justice should prosecute those who defy subpoenas related to the January 6 Capitol Hill riots. According to Axios, Biden made these remarks one day after Steve Bannon failed to show up for a deposition before the committee.

"I hope the committee goes after them and holds them accountable," Biden told reporters Friday.

In addition to Bannon defying the deposition, Trump has told former aides and associates to invoke executive privilege and refuse to comply with any subpeonas related to January 6. Nonetheless, the select committee is set to convene on Tuesday and will determine whether Steve Bannon will be held in criminal contempt.

"Mr. Bannon has declined to cooperate with the Select Committee and is instead hiding behind the former President’s insufficient, blanket, and vague statements regarding privileges he has purported to invoke. We reject his position entirely," committee Chair Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) said in a statement.

"The Select Committee will not tolerate defiance of our subpoenas, so we must move forward with proceedings to refer Mr. Bannon for criminal contempt. I’ve notified the Select Committee that we will convene for a business meeting Tuesday evening to vote on adopting a contempt report," Thompson continued.
