Massaquoi was returning from the Nashville premiere of Daily Wire’s Lady Ballers, a movie he had a role in.
On Thursday, the FBI arrested conservative actor Siaka Massaquoi and charged him with four misdemeanors stemming from his presence at the U.S. Capitol building on Jan 6.
According to a GiveSendGo account to raise money for his legal defense, Massaquoi and his pregnant wife Charlotte were on their way home from attending the Daily Wire's Lady Ballers movie premier when the FBI arrested him.
"Charlotte was told the charges had to do with January 6th; however, she was not presented with any arrest warrant," the site says. "Siaka was taken to Monterey Park Jail where he stayed overnight and was told that he was being charged for four misdemeanors pertaining to his presence outside of the Capital Building in Washington, D.C. on January 6th."
The FBI raided Massaquoi's home three years ago, but he was never charged until now. "This family has been through so many ups and downs, a circus would be a more appropriate term for the turmoil and unnecessary display of government overreach that they have had to endure," the statement said.
Massaquoi shared a Jan. 6, 2021 video on X from where you can see him helping police direct people out of the capital with the caption, "Witness why I was raided 2 years ago and recently arrested and charged Nov 30th 2023 almost 3 years later."
In a show of support for the actor, conservative actress Gina Carano wrote on X, "This is political persecution." She continued, "Like they don’t have enough pedophiles, sex traffickers, rapists and murderers to go after but what do they choose to spend their time doing? What are their priorities?? Harassing a peaceful protester on Jan 6th."
"@_SiakaMassaquoi is an incredible human being, what is happening to him is disturbing and WRONG," Carano said. "Enough already, we shouldn’t be having to try this hard to defend ourselves from our own government! It’s sickening."
The Babylon Bee's Seth Dillon spoke out against the political persecution, posting on X: "If you've watched our Californians Move to Texas series, then you're already familiar with Siaka. You know how funny and talented he is. But he isn't just a talented actor and friend of the Babylon Bee; he also happens to be a Trump supporter. And he's being punished for it by our government As Siaka was returning home from a trip to Nashville for the Daily Wire's latest premiere, the FBI was waiting to arrest him and charge him with crimes related to his presence at the Capitol on Jan 6. I couldn't believe this when I heard it. This political persecution can't be allowed to continue. Please join me in supporting our friend Siaka and his family by donating to his legal defense fund."
Daily Wire's Jeremy Boreing also spoke out, stating, "Siaka is a good man and a huge talent. The FBI arresting a man at the airport three years after the event - and after raiding his house and not charging him already - and then only charging him with misdemeanors is one of the most absurd things I’ve ever heard."
Elon Musk responded to the arrest as well, simply stating, "This has gone too far."
