A Brampton family flew back into Pearson Airport from Montego Bay on Feb. 7. Authorities seized more than 100 kg of illegal drugs in their luggage, including in the luggage of their 12-year-old child.

Authorities with the Canada Border Service Agency found approximately 7.7 kg of cocaine, 93 kg of marijuana and 218 grams of hashish upon examining the family's suitcases.

Some of the cannabis was in the 12-year-old's suitcase, although apparently the 10-year-old's suitcase didn't have any drugs inside. The total estimated street value of all the contraband could be worth up to over $1.6 million, according to police.

According to CTV News, the two parents of the family of four have now been charged with importation of a controlled substance and with conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, three counts each.

The children were released into the custody of other family members while the adults were being processed and formally charged with the crimes.

The parents have been released on bail, with their court date being set for April in Brampton.
