Activists in downtown Toronto are attempting to set up an occupied zone similar to the one currently established in the city of Seattle.

The occupation is apparently being organized by a group called "Afro Indigenous Rising"—a group that advocates for the abolition of the police force.

The group has made a public request on Facebook for PPE and support: "If you’re downtown and have PPE on you and want to come by NPS to support us please do! ... Come share some joy and brightness with us!"

Around twenty tents and stands have been set up by activists with the goal of promoting the message of ridding the city of its police force. ABOLISH THE POLICE has been painted on the concrete ground at the site. An activist present told The Post Millennial that they intend to occupy the space outside Toronto city hall for two weeks.

The attempt at a sustained, occupied protest follows the establishment of Seattle's so-called CHAZ/CHOP zone—an area of downtown Seattle that has been declared "cop-free."

The Seattle autonomous zone has been peaceful during the day and often violent at night; it's been the site of numerous violent crimes including two shootings in the last two days.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
