AI firm Anthropic, headed by Dario Amodei, is officially heading for an IPO after the company filed paperwork on Monday to be offered on the public market.

In a form filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the company plans to be traded on the Nasdaq under the ticker "ANT." This is despite the tech giant losing $80.7 billion in the first half of 2026.

"Anthropic intends to list its Class A common stock on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the symbol “ANT.” The number of shares of Class A common stock to be offered and the price range for the proposed offering have not yet been determined," the company said in a press release about the S-1 filing.

The AI company, which is behind Claude, filed with the SEC in June confidentially so that the agency could review their financials. The company was founded by CEO Dario Amodei after he as well as other AI researchers left OpenAI. Anthropic has become a go-to for many companies seeking AI tools in corporate America, including the company's Claude Code and Claude Cowork.

The company has been in a race with OpenAI and Google to become the go-to AI platform. Despite its rapid growth, Anthropic CEO Amodei has come under fire for claiming earlier this year that AI companies need to "pace the frontier" with government regulation. Although he called for a slowdown, citing potential catastrophe, Anthropic does not show signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Anthropic's IPO will likely come just months after Elon Musk's SpaceX hit the Nasdaq as the largest IPO on record, which raised $85.7 billion. Although the IPO is expected to be enormous, Anthropic may be entering the public market as investors have grown skittish about a possible pullback on AI spending if investments in the technology do not deliver greater efficiency for corporate customers.
