An armored Brinks truck was robbed on Tuesday morning in Northeast Philadelphia, with the armed robbers making off with a reported $1.8 million.
Per CBS Philadelphia, police responded to the 7200 block of Torresdale Avenue at around 9:43 am for reports of a robbery in progress. The suspects in the case, two men, were carrying rifles.
Police later located an Acura car that investigators believe was used in the robbery. It was found under I-95 in the area of Front Street and Fairmont Avenue.
Per ABC 6, the Brinks truck had been servicing a budget financial center in the area when the two armed men approached the truck. Police sources told the outlet that the pair stole $1.8 million from the truck. The FBI is now leading the investigation.
This is the latest in a year-long string of armored truck heists in the Philadelphia area. Per the Philadelphia Inquirer, three men were charged in June for stealing around $2 million from a truck in Port Richmond. In the same month, an armed man stole around $700,000 from a Brinks truck in Cheltenham Township, and two armed men held up a Loomis driver in Northeast Philadelphia, taking around $100,000.
Three men robbed a Brinks driver in July on Frankford Avenue, taking an undisclosed amount of cash. Less than two weeks later, two armed men attempted to rob a Brinks driver in Rhawnhurst, but fled.
