BREAKING: Dallas police detain masked man who had ammunition in car near Ken Paxton's election watch party

A masked man who had ammunition in his vehicle was detained outside Ken Paxton's election watch party on Tuesday evening. Dallas police got a call and arrived at the scene to detain the suspicious individual. 

Officers arrested him on a traffic violation because his vehicle did not have a license plate. The police were notified about the masked man and those on the scene saw that he had ammunition in his vehicle and the car had no plates. The man was also wearing a camouflage hat, mask, and gloves. No firearms were found. 

The call about the suspicious individual came in at around 5:16 pm local time to the 3000 block of Fairmount Street in the Uptown neighborhood. According to WFAA, the man entered the venue for the election watch party and was then told to leave. 

Reporters on the scene saw police taking large amounts of ammunition out of the trunk of the vehicle. The man's identity was not immediately released, and it was not immediately clear if he will be facing other charges. The man was taken to Jack Evans Police Headquarters for further questioning. 

The events take place on the evening of the Republican and Democrat primaries in Texas for US Senate. Paxton, the attorney general of Texas, is running up against incumbent Senator John Cornyn as well as Rep. Wesley Hunt in the primary. 

For the Democrats, Rep. Jasmine Crockett is running against state lawmaker James Talarico in the primary. Leading up to the primary, Talarico and Paxton held a slim edge ahead of their opponents, per an Emerson College poll. If nobody reaches 50 percent of the vote in the GOP primary, the election will go into a runoff.
