BREAKING: Darline Graham wins South Carolina GOP primary for Senate: Decision Desk

Sister to the late Lindsey Graham, Darline, has won the GOP primary for Senate in South Carolina, Decision Desk projected on Tuesday. She was able to best Ralph Norman after the two candidates advanced to the runoff election.  

Voter returned to the polls after Graham and Norman were able to advance to the runoff election in the race that may determine who will have the late Lindsey Graham's seat. The past month and a half has been chaotic for the race after the senior senator died on July 11 from a heart condition. He had been running for a fifth term in Congress and had just won the Republican primary when he passed away. 

The primary election the candidates jockeying for an opportunity to fill the seat while at the same time having to pay respects for the late lawmaker with a very short window of time. Darline was appointed to fill Lindsey's spot in Congress to finish out his term, and she was endorsed by President Donald Trump leading up to the primary election.  

Although Graham finished first when it came to the first round of the primary, her and Norman advanced to the runoff as neither of them were able to cross the threshold of 50 percent of the votes just a couple weeks ago. 

During the race, Trump's PAC also spent over $827,000 on Graham's behalf. "I'm doing this to honor Lindsey. That's why I'm here," Trump said at a rally in Myrtle Beach earlier in August "So, Darline, we got to win that race." The spending went towards voter phone calls and texts in a get out the vote effort in an effort to beat Norman. 

Graham will now head to the general election for Senate and is set to compete against Democrat Annie Andrews, who won her primary in June.
