Senate Democrats have delayed the Judiciary Committee's vote to advance Kash Patel as the prospective FBI Director under President Donald Trump by a week. The vote was supposed to take place on Thursday at 10:15 am.

According to Forbes, amid their opposition to Patel, Senate Democrats on the Judiciary Committee moved to "hold over" the nomination vote, meaning delay it by one week. Ranking member of the Judiciary Committee Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) argued on Thursday that Patel “does not have the temperament for the job.”

Immediately following the delay, the Senate Democrats held a press conference to voice their opposition to Patel. Durbin cited his work on the January 6 choir as well as other points. The Democrats stood behind a sign that said "Block Kash Patel," and several of them spoke in opposition to Patel.

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) also opposed Patel, citing that the FBI Director nominee shared a meme video where Patel's face is pasted on a man using a chainsaw to cut through "fake news," as well as "CNN," "MSNBC" as images are pasted on sections of a log getting cut into sections. However, the faces of multiple prominent Democratic figures also appear on the sections of the log were cut by the chainsaw.

Whitehouse described the video of Patel, saying he was "chain sawing the heads off people who were on his enemies list in his book," and said that Patel should not be given the role of FBI Director.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) also spoke in opposition to Patel: "The FBI director's loyalty must be to the American people, to the Constitution, and to the rule of law, but Mr. Patel has made it clear that his loyalty is to the President."

The committee vote for Patel is now expected to take place next Thursday.
