"Tonight, I am pleased to announce that we have just apprehended the top terrorist responsible for that atrocity."
"America is once again standing strong against the forces of radical Islamic terrorism," Trump said. "Three and a half years ago, ISIS terrorists killed 13 American service members and countless others in the Abbey Gate bombing during the disastrous and incompetent withdrawal from Afghanistan. Not that they were withdrawing. It was the way they withdrew, perhaps the most embarrassing moment in the history of our country. Tonight, I am pleased to announce that we have just apprehended the top terrorist responsible for that atrocity, and he is right now on his way here to face the swift sword of American justice."
Axios reported that Mohammad Sharifullah is believed to have coordinated the attack and is a leader of an ISIS cell in Afghanistan and was detained by the United States.
Trump added, "I want to thank especially the government of Pakistan for helping arrest this monster. This was a very momentous day for those 13 families who I actually got to know very well, most of them, whose children were murdered, and the many people that were so badly—over 42 people so badly injured on that fateful day in Afghanistan, what a horrible day. Such incompetence was shown."
The attack allegedly planned by Sharifullah, there were 170 Afghans who were killed as a result along with the 13 service members.
Gold Star father of slain Staff Sgt. Taylor Hoover, Darin Hoover, told The Post Millennial that he was glad that he was finally seeing someone being held to account over the actions. “This is definitely a first step in in many more to come.”
“I hope the terrorists across the Middle East are terrified of this man [Trump] as well. They should be terrified of our president.” Hoover said that he has been “very grateful” for the help the Trump administration has offered to him and the families of the other soldiers killed in the attack.
Taylor Hoover's mother, Kelly Barnett, told TPM that she is feeling a lot of hope as well as pride as an American. "I'm just so thankful that President Trump has kept his words and has remembered us," Barnett added, saying that Trump has kept his word in bringing people behind the attack to justice.
"Now it's time to clean house here and in the States, and get rid of all the generals and the people in the administration that are responsible for what happened to my son and to the other 12," she added.
Cheryl Jules, the aunt of slain Sgt. Nicole Gee, told The Post Millennial that earlier on Tuesday, the Gold Star families were told and got the news that Sharifullah had been detained by the Trump administration.
“You know, we've gotten used to almost four years of just complete neglect,” Jules said of the Biden administration.
Jules said of the Gold Star families’ reaction to the news when they found out about the terrorist getting detained, “We were all in tears. You know, we couldn't be more thankful for the to the President and for the cabinet he's hired to go out and do this.”
She emphasized that Trump and his administration was able to detain Sharifullah within six weeks after years had gone by under Biden without similar actions.
