This victory in Michigan marks a significant sweep for Trump in the "blue wall" states of Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.
Former President Donald Trump has been declared the winner in Michigan, according to the Associated Press. The closely contested race came down to the final votes in Wayne County, where Vice President Kamala Harris was unable to replicate Joe Biden’s 2020 winning margin in the county which includes the city of Detroit.
This victory in Michigan marks a significant sweep for Trump in the "blue wall" states of Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. All three states were crucial to Trump’s victory in 2016 but flipped to Biden in 2020.
In 2020, Trump lost Michigan by over 150,000 votes, but this cycle he achieved a narrow victory over Harris. Both candidates focused heavily on campaigning in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania, recognizing their pivotal role in the electoral map. Ultimately, Trump's efforts paid off with a decisive win across these key battleground states.
Leading up to the November 5 election, Trump had a tight lead in a number of Michigan polls. He received the endorsement of Dearbon Heights Mayor Bill Bazzi, the first Muslim and Arab American elected mayor of the city. Trump was also endorsed by Democrat Muslim mayor of Hamtramck, Ameer Ghalib.
