BREAKING: Donors freeze $90 million in pledges to Biden super PAC

Democrat donors have told Future Forward, a Biden super PAC, that roughly $90 million in pledged donations will be frozen if President Biden stays on top of the ticket. This comes after the incumbent president has faced mounting pressure from Democrats to step aside in the 2024 presidential race.  

According to a report from the New York Times, the frozen $90 million dollars includes multiple eight-figure pledges to the Biden campaign.  

Future Forward declined a request for comment from the Times on the discussion that the super PAC was having with donors and the amount of cash that was being held from the campaign. A donor to the PAC has said he and his friends had been “holding off" on donating to the PAC since Biden's dismal debate performance in June. 

The potential shortfall in funds going to the pro-Biden super PAC comes as the campaign is getting ready for a rough fundraising season as the incumbent president’s polls numbers have dropped on average since the debate, per 538 polling averages. Biden is also facing increasing pressure from Democrats to drop out of the race. As of Friday morning, 17 Democratic lawmakers had publicly called for Biden to drop out of the general election. 

The super PAC has been cautious about making any strategic moves until after there is more clarity about who will be at the top of the ticket in November, according to a person familiar with the matter who spoke to the outlet. Future Forward was Biden's leading super PAC in the beginning of the 2024 race and has already moved to spend $250 million on TV and digital ads starting after the DNC.
