The Republicans have taken control of the US House of Representatives, meaning that with the White House and Senate already in the party's control, and the Supreme Court a conservative 6-3 majority, the GOP has full control of the federal government.

The Nov. 5 election saw a decisive victory for Donald Trump and his running mate JD Vance, and it was shortly thereafter that it became clear that the Senate had flipped red. Americans have been anxiously holding their breath waiting for the final results of the House election to come in. Slow votes in California and well as some of the other western states have been to blame for the lengthy wait for results.

The New York Times explained the lengthy wait in California thusly: "While many states tallied the bulk of their ballots within hours of polls’ closing on Tuesday, California still had nearly five million to count going into this holiday weekend, just under a third of all of the ballots that were cast there."

"Leaders in California, the nation’s most populous state, defend the deliberate process as necessary to ensure that the tallies are accurate and that as many voters participate as possible. They say their generous provisions for voters give the public greater confidence."

While 218 seats are needed for control of the congressional body, Republicans are projected to reach 220 per Decision Desk HQ. Republicans had a majority prior to the election and were seeking to hold onto it.

In his early Wednesday morning victory speech from Palm Beach, Florida, President-elect Trump praised Speaker Mike Johnson: “It also looks like we’ll be keeping control of the House of Representatives. And I want to thank Mike Johnson. I think he’s doing a terrific job.”

I sweetened my coffee with liberal tears this morning.

Demonrats are going to using a lot of 'butthurt cream'. But I do agree with Chuckie Schumer, we should get rid of the filibuster. Unintended consequences rarely come pre-lubed.
